I’ve always wanted to own a record store.
After many years of just being an idea, I’m excited to announce that Latin Gold Records is officially LIVE!
The first record sale goes live on Instagram this Friday, 3/29 at 9AM PT :)
While the main dream is to have a brick-and-mortar store that you can call a third place one day, I’m thrilled to be able to bond over music with you on Instagram and this Substack, swap stories, recommend artists and albums, and help build your record collection. Soon, I plan to also pop up in person at record fairs and flea markets in Los Angeles. Who knows, too, maybe one day beyond!
Every record collection has an origin story. Like so many others, my passion for records came from my parents, whose collection I inherited, consisting mostly of Latin music. My parents met each other in the 80s when they both worked at a jewelry company in Downtown Los Angeles called Latin Gold, and I like to believe that my passion for music was born out of this moment. It felt natural then that by extension, my venture into record selling would be called Latin Gold Records. If you want to read the full story, you can read it here on First Pressing, where I explore life through record collecting.
My goal with pricing vinyl is to be conservative and fair. I won’t gate keep because I believe that if the album is worthwhile, it should be affordable. I’m doing this only for passion, not profit, and eventually, I will identify non-profits to support through the proceeds.
The market for selling records is crazy oversaturated, but I really feel like I can add something valuable and different to the experience as a whole. That’s what record collecting should be: not a transaction you make, but an experience you love.
Because you subscribe to First Pressing, I wanted to give YOU an exclusive first look at some of the records I’m dropping on Friday.
THIS FRIDAY, 3/29 AT 9AM PST, Latin Gold Records will be having its FIRST SALE EVER. Ranging from Latin and Salsa to rock, disco, and a fun pop one, I’ll break down the price, year, vinyl grading / condition, and payment instructions in each Instagram post.
Every sale will be announced beforehand so you can set your reminders and then check out the feed. Unless marked SOLD, if it’s on the @latingoldrecords feed, it’s for sale. Tap to set the reminder and happy spinning :) Don’t see anything you want this time? Don’t worry, this is the first of many more to come!
Follow Latin Gold Records on Instagram for more. More life, more records, more to come!
That’s it for this special announcement issue of First Pressing. I’ll be back shortly with regular posts about exploring life through record collecting.
Until then, happy spinning :)
Kadrian
Exciting times! I too often dream about owning a record store (or an indie cinema). I wish you the best of luck, Kadrian!
PS: Give me an early heads up when your og Lijadu Sisters LP becomes available. ;)
This is awesome news, Kadrian - congrats on taking the plunge to do this. I share that dream to open a bricks and mortar shop - life's short and we need to follow our dreams I reckon! Looking forward to the first sale and reading more about this on Instagram and First Pressing!
