Rich does an excellent job of detailing the record stores in London (and beyond) to make it feel like you're there, or at the least, you WANT to be there. Beyond that, he then gets to know the owners of the store and what sets them apart. as someone in California, this gives me FOMO in all the best ways.
New substack alert! EIRM takes the beloved indie bands of the 90s - present and gives them the deep-dive/bandsplain spin by discussing the origins and discography of past time favorite artists. loved the Phoenix article and really hoping to hear about the early aught bands that defined this era: The Strokes, The Hives, The Vines, The White Stripes, OK GO, Robbers on High Street, goldfrapp, LCD Soundsystem, basically any band that played the Just Like Heaven Festival in Los Angeles.
i look forward to reading this one every day as Jointz of the Day unearths troves of treasure and history about funk/soul/jazz gems. it makes me rediscover albums in my collection and things i've never heard. so many great resources.
HUGE fan of Nabil's book "My Life in the Sunshine". this is just another added connection to Nabil's life as president of record label beggars group, creative writer, music aficionado, and yes, the son of prolific vibes player Roy Ayers
Brad's enthusiasm and passion for music and the community is infectious. His vast knowledge of 70s and 80s music is bar none. I love Tune Tag Tuesdays - it's a great way to get into the minds of the like-minded and musically obsessed.
