Ah what an amazing album!! And a lovely story about how the music connected you with your now wife. I first heard of the good pastor in 2021 when Numero Group released a 5-disc box set entitled I Shall Wear A Crown. That album became my #2 album of 2021 which is really saying something as I rarely include compilations or reissues on my AOTY lists. But it was just SOOO good and helped me navigate what was an extremely difficult year for me. It’s a collection I go back to regularly (listening to it again right now in fact) and brings me great joy.

I’m pretty sure this record also came my way through discover weekly, I wonder how similar Spotify thinks our taste is. Also can’t wait for the sale, so many great records lined up. I have the three Numero releases and absolutely adore all of them. Just last month, I saw an original copy of 'Like A Ship' in Human Head Records in Brooklyn, but it was beat up and still commanding three figures! Barrett is just one - imagine the records from similar artists yet to be discovered!
Fascinating read, Kadrian. I didn’t realise TL Barrett had so many strings to his bow… But he made a landmark album here, that’s for sure. And what an incredible story about meeting your wife through the love of his music. It’s powerful stuff!
Love the ‘peak Discover Weekly’ phase too… I definitely went there for a while. Realise I haven’t dabbled with DW lately, but I do like Spotify’s ‘blend’ feature, which cooks up a cool shared playlist with my partner… each feeding in a bit of what’s currently on rotation in the car or headphones.
